Low is the lowest figure any cited guide gives, high is the highest, and ~typical is the mean of the guides' midpoints. Stump jobs apply the guides' minimum call-out fee once per visit. Estimates only; not a quote.

How It Works
The estimator is a lookup, not a model. Every range comes from three public cost guides, transcribed below with the date we read them. For each job it takes the lowest low and the highest high any guide gives, and calls “typical” the average of the guides’ midpoints. Multiply by the count, then apply the extras the guides price: a 25 to 50% surcharge for trees that are hard to reach or close to a structure (HomeAdvisor), $50 to $100 per tree for chipping and hauling (HomeGuide, Fixr), and $1 to $4 per inch of diameter to remove grindings (HomeGuide, HomeAdvisor).
Tree removal is priced by height band. Stump grinding is priced per inch of diameter measured at the base, $2 to $6, with a minimum call-out fee of $80 to $160 applied once per visit. Dig-out uses the diameter bands the guides publish and a backhoe minimum of $150 to $350. The chemical option is the DIY product cost only; a pro chemical treatment is $60 to $200 per stump.
Diameter accepts inches or centimetres. The guides are US national figures; regional labor rates, permits ($60 to $450) and emergency call-outs sit outside these ranges.

Worked Example
Two small trees under 30 ft, close to the house, chipped and hauled. Per tree the guides give $150 to $450, $200 to $500 and $150 to $400: low $150, high $500, typical the mean of the midpoints ($300, $350, $275) = $308. Two trees: $300 / $617 / $1,000. Hard access adds 25% to the low and 50% to the high (37.5% to typical): $375 / $848 / $1,500. Chipping adds $50 to $100 per tree: $475 / ~$998 / $1,700.
FAQ
Why is the range so wide?
The guides disagree with each other and each covers the whole country. A 30 to 60 ft tree is $450 to $700 at Fixr and $500 to $1,500 at HomeGuide. The tool keeps both ends rather than hiding the disagreement; use the typical figure to sanity-check a quote and the ends to know what is plausible.
Does tree removal include the stump?
No. All three guides price removal with the stump left in the ground. Add a stump grinding job for the same tree; the base diameter is usually a little wider than the trunk.
How do I measure a stump for grinding?
Measure the widest part at ground level, including flared roots, in inches. Contractors price from the base, not the cut surface, so a 20 in cut can bill as 28 in.
Is grinding or dig-out cheaper?
Grinding, almost always. A 24 in stump grinds for roughly $50 to $150 plus the call-out minimum; digging the same stump out is $160 to $700 and leaves a hole to backfill. Dig-out makes sense when you need the roots gone for construction or a new tree in the same spot.
Why does a small stump still cost $80 or more?
Minimum call-out fees. Every guide lists one ($80 to $160 for grinding), so the per-inch math only takes over above roughly 15 to 25 inches.
